Carl Burnham III Elected Club President for 2013

The Multnomah Athletic Club elected Carl Burnham III to serve as the club’s president for 2013. Burnham replaces Darwin Green, director of sales and acquisitions for I&G Development, LLC, who served as MAC president in 2012. Burnham serves one year in the position of president.

Burnham, 50, is a resident of Portland and managing partner at Deschutes Wealth Management, LLC. He graduated from the University of Oregon in 1984 with a degree in finance. Burnham has been active in a variety of club activities with his family, including ski, dance, swimming, tennis and exercise and conditioning. Burnham joined MAC as a senior family member in 1998 through the club’s lottery system. Burnham’s committee service includes the Ski, Nominating, Athletic, Human Resources and Budget and Finance committees. He and his wife, Lisa, have three children. Their daughter Kate attends Boston College. Their daughter Madeline attends Colorado College and their son Chase is a senior at Jesuit High School.

Joining Burnham, are Vice President Jim Cleary, commercial insurance consultant; Treasurer Craig Iverson, attorney/CPA and Secretary Gwen Farnham, co-founder and owner at Maywood View Properties and retired national sales manager for Levi Strauss and Co.

Outgoing officers, including Green, are Vice President Kim Sisul, financial advisor, VP-investment officer, Wells Fargo Advisors; Treasurer John D. Carr, president of the Carr Group LLC; and Secretary Mike Buckley, managing director at Intel Capital.

The 2013 officers were elected Monday, Feb. 11 by the club’s 12-member Board of Trustees and announced to the general membership at the 122st Annual Meeting, held Tuesday, Feb. 12. Each trustee serves three years.

Second-year trustees are Ann Blume, senior associate, CBRE; David DeBlasio, attorney with Harrington, Anderson, and DeBlasio; Darcy Henderson, self-employed photo stylist; and Dwight Terry, funeral director, Terry Family Funeral Home.

First-year trustees are Doug Dawley, interventional cardiologist with Northwest Cardiovascular Institute; David Horstkotte, engineer and full-time father; Robert W. Nunn, attorney with Sussman Shank LLP; and Scott Sakamoto, internet marketing specialist and owner of Ronin Studios.

Founded in 1891, the Multnomah Athletic Club is one of the premier social and athletic clubs in the United States. MAC is a family-oriented club that offers a variety of activities to its 19,900 members. Located at 1849 S.W. Salmon Street in Portland, Oregon, the club occupies two buildings totaling 550,00 square feet. The eight-level main clubhouse overlooks the 30,000-seat JELD-WEN Field and is within walking distance of downtown Portland. Covered parking for more than 600 autos is provided in the club’s garage located across the street from the main clubhouse.

MAC’s membership includes national and world champions. More than 40 MAC athletes and coaches have participated in Olympic Games, winning a total 28 medals through the years. Honors include Dan Kelly’s world records in the 100-yard dash and the 220-yard dash; Louise Kuehn’s first United States Olympic diving gold medal; swimmer Nancy Merki’s 27-second margin in her 1,500-meter freestyle record; and Jim Grelle’s 21 sub-four-minute miles.
